Went because it kept showing up on my TikTok feed. Michelin-listed and known as one of the places to try.
Ordered the crab with lemon sauce, chili shrimp, and papaya salad.
The crab with the lemon sauce was incredible. The sauce was so good. It would be worth going back just for that.
Papaya salad is a classic, but this was one of the better versions I’ve tried.
Chili shrimp was good.
Very busy. Waited about 40 minutes. Service moved fast once seated.
Worth trying at least once. Not sure I’d wait that long again, but glad I went.

The dishes were okay - we had higher expectations since the restaurant has been awarded Bib Gourmand Michelin for many consecutive years. To be fair the restaurant did deliver “good quality, good value cooking” as per the Bib Gourmand criteria. However, I wouldn’t say the dishes were of high quality. We ordered 7 dishes and all were so-so, felt as if they were cooked in a rush and lacked flavours. They also lacked the “wok hey” (complex, smoky, charred aroma). One dish that was above average was the tamarind prawns. The sauce was sour, sweet, tangy… that’s the must-order.
The bill came up to 1,990 Thai baht, which is absolutely reasonable for the amount of food we have ordered.

The food was well worth trying. I ordered one of their signature dishes—yellow curry with fresh crab meat served with noodles. Although I requested a medium spice level, it was quite hot for my taste, so it’s worth being mindful of the spiciness when ordering. I also had a fried mushroom appetizer, which was enjoyable. The passion fruit juice stood out for its well-balanced flavor and creative combinations. Overall, the balance of flavors, particularly the spiciness, was impressive.
The total bill was 660 baht.

We had an absolutely fabulous meal in the very heart of old Phuket town. The place was surprisingly reasonably priced for the exceptional quality of the food. It was truly wonderful, and the overall experience was top notch. It definitely lives up to its reputation and all the accolades it has received, including recognition from Michelin guides. The cuisine offered here is a fascinating blend of Teochew flavors infused with the distinct Thai influences, and the dishes themselves were simply divine. We can't recommend it enough, it's truly a must try experience! Just be aware that the place can get very crowded, especially during peak hours, so coming early is strongly advised. And please don't forget your cash! No other forms were permitted when we were there.

One Chun Cafe is often mentioned as a must-visit spot when you’re in Phuket, and after trying it myself, I can say the reputation is mostly well deserved. The food is genuinely good, especially if you’re looking for classic Thai dishes done properly.
The fried pork and pork stew are absolute standouts. Both are incredibly flavorful, and the meat is exceptionally tender, unlike what you usually find in many other places. These two dishes alone make the visit worth it.
Another dish we tried was the crab meat in Thai soup, which is somewhat curry-like. It looks inviting and rich, but be warned—it’s seriously spicy, especially toward the end. If you’re not great with spice, you may want to approach this one carefully or share it.
We also ordered the pineapple baked rice. This one was fine—pleasant, but not memorable. It’s more like seasoned rice rather than a true fried rice, so it doesn’t really stand out compared to the other dishes.
The only real downside of the experience was the service. It wasn’t terrible, but it could definitely be better—especially for a place this popular. A bit more attentiveness and warmth would elevate the overall experience significantly.
Overall, One Chun Cafe is worth visiting at least once, especially for the pork dishes. Great food with room for improvement on the service side.
